Efficiency Vermont & Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Rebates

Efficiency Vermont is an organization that provides residents with advice and financial support to help them increase the performance of their homes with energy efficient upgrades. In partnership with Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, Efficiency Vermont offers savings for services like:

With the Efficiency Vermont and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR rebates, residents are eligible for getting 75% of the project cost back, up to $4,000—or up to $9,500 for low-income households. Commercial and multi-family dwellings are also elgible for getting 75% of cost back (up to $5000!) in rebates. In order to receive the higher rebate, documentation is required to verify your household’s income. You can qualify for these Vermont energy rebates in just a few easy steps:

  1. Schedule a site visit
  2. Schedule an audit test-in with an independent, third-party auditor to ensure your eligibility for rebates
  3. Insulation and air sealing installation
  4. Schedule an audit test-out
  5. Receive your rebate!

Inflation Reduction Act Incentives

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) 2022 bill was created to lower the cost of energy efficient upgrades to make them more accessible for American families and businesses. Within the IRA are several new tax credits and rebates on home performance services that are available to Vermont and New Hampshire homeowners. Here are the details:

Energy Efficiency Tax Credits

Save up to 30% of the total cost of energy efficient home improvements with the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit. This IRA tax credit can be claimed multiple years in a row, from 2022-2032, and has a $1,200 combined annual limit. To claim the Energy Efficient Home Improvement tax credit, homeowners can file IRS Form 5695 with their annual tax returns. The list of eligible services includes:

  • Energy Audits ($150 maximum credit)
  • Insulation Services (excludes on-site labor costs)
  • Air Sealing (excludes on-site labor costs)

Inflation Reduction Act Rebates

The Inflation Reduction Act also created two new rebate programs for a variety of energy efficiency home improvements, like insulation and air sealing. The Home Owner Managing Energy Savings (HOMES) and High-Efficiency Electric Homes rebates are not expected to be redeemable until late 2023 or early 2024. Vermont Foam Insulation is keeping a close watch on updates, and we will make an announcement as soon as we know when IRA rebates will be available in Vermont and New Hampshire.
