If you’re considering installing new insulation in your home, you may already be aware of the many financial benefits an insulation upgrade can offer: more consistent indoor comfort, greater energy efficiency, and reduced energy costs, to name a few. These many benefits come together to give home insulation a high return on investment.
But here’s what you may not know — insulation upgrades also qualify for valuable rebates through programs like Efficiency Vermont and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR. As southern Vermont’s trusted home insulation specialist, Vermont Foam Insulation can help you complete smart home upgrades while qualifying for as many incentives as possible.
Improve Your Home and Earn up to $2,500
Here is a look at local rebates you may be eligible for when you make your home more energy efficient with insulation.
Up to $2,500 for Comprehensive Upgrades
Through Efficiency Vermont’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (HPwES) program, you can earn up to $2,500 in rebates when you complete a comprehensive energy efficiency upgrade on your home. Receive up to $2,000 in incentives when you complete an upgrade that includes insulation, air sealing, heating, and ventilation upgrades — plus an additional $500 if you are income-eligible.
Here are the specifics:
Energy Efficiency Home Improvement
Health & safety improvements including mechanical ventilation & carbon monoxide detectors. Reduction in air leakage by a minimum of 10%.
Air sealing for a reduction in air leakage by 20–35% (or over 35%)
$250 (or $500)
Insulation to specific R-value criteria in these areas: attic flat ceilings (at least R-49), vaulted ceilings & floors (at least R-30), walls (at least R-12), foundation & rim-joists (at least R-15)
$0.40 per sq. ft. of new insulation
Duct sealing, leak repairs & boiler pipe insulation for improved heat distribution
Comprehensive Retrofit Bonus Package: Air sealing for a reduction in air leakage by at least 35%; insulation in areas equivalent to at least 75% of the home’s finished floor area to the above specified R-value criteria (e.g., 1,500 sq. ft. of insulation in a 2,000 sq. ft. home)
Income Eligible Bonus (varies depending on county and number of people in household)
$250 for Attic Weatherization
Efficiency Vermont also offers a $250 rebate for attic weatherization. Qualifying work includes attic air sealing as well as installation of new attic insulation.
This rebate can be combined with the basement weatherization rebate.
$250 for Basement Weatherization
There is also a $250 rebate available from Efficiency Vermont for basement weatherization. Qualifying work includes basement air sealing as well as installation of new basement insulation.
Again, this rebate can be combined with the attic weatherization rebate.
Plus: Get a 10% Federal Tax Credit
Did you know that your insulation upgrade can also qualify for a federal tax credit? Homeowners who have new insulation installed — whether it’s mineral wool or fiberglass batting, blown-in cellulose, rigid foam board, expanding spray foam — are eligible to receive 10% of the cost back on their federal tax return, up to $500. (Note that the tax credit does not include installation costs.)
Whether you are a southern Vermont homeowner who wants to add to incentives you’re already earning through Efficiency Vermont, or you’re located in southwestern New Hampshire, our insulation professionals can help you take advantage of this valuable tax incentive.
